Journal Description
The Department of Academic Journals at Kabul University, initially established in 1979 (1358 AH) under the General Directorate of Publications, was tasked with managing and publishing journals in the natural and social sciences. Over the decades, these journals have showcased scholarly contributions from faculty across diverse disciplines. Operations were disrupted in the 1990s due to internal conflicts, but the department resumed its activities in 2002 (1381 AH), steadily expanding its scope. In 2018 (1397 AH), due to a surge in manuscript submissions, the department was restructured into two independent units: one for Natural Sciences and one for Social Sciences. In 2023 (1402 AH), with Kabul University’s structural reforms and the creation of the Vice-Chancellor's Office for Academic Research, the journal office was elevated to the Department of Academic Journals. This transformation has enhanced coordination, streamlined management, and aligned the journals with global academic standards.
Between 2023 and 2024 (1402–1403 AH), significant efforts were made to internationalize the journal. A key milestone was the advancement of the Journal of Natural Sciences-Kabul University, which entered a new phase of development with the launch of its dedicated website in 2024 (1403 AH). The journal now holds both print and electronic ISSNs (P-ISSN: 3078-6657, E-ISSN: 3078-6665), with each article assigned a unique DOI. It is freely accessible to researchers worldwide via its official platform: https://jns.edu.af.
Indexing in prestigious academic databases, including Google Scholar, Crossref, CORE, and BASE, has significantly boosted the journal’s global visibility, credibility, and citation impact.
