Abstract

This research investigates the effectiveness of higher education in Afghanistan's socio-economic sphere, addressing critical questions: 1) Can Afghanistan's higher education system adequately meet societal needs? 2) What measures are required to harness its potential, and what challenges must be confronted? Drawing on a synthesis of library research and analytical inquiry, the study uncovers various significant challenges educational institutions have faced over the past two decades. These encompass organizational limitations within administrative and academic departments, the absence of postgraduate programs in specific fields, insufficient attention to faculty recruitment and development, limited financial support for research initiatives, a lack of awareness regarding students' educational attributes beyond academics, an oversight of practical education dimensions, inattention to societal needs in curriculum formulation, and a failure to reconcile national and Islamic customs and traditions with modernity. These findings illuminate the intricate landscape confronting educational institutions and underscore the imperative of strategic interventions to enhance the efficacy of higher education in socio-economic domains.
