Abstract
Vegetable oils are extremely essential in both the food (as frying, flavoring and cooking oil) and non-food industries (production of detergents, paints and biodiesel). Plant tissues contains vegetable oils and fats, which are mostly present in the seeds, fruits, stone fruits, and tubers of plants. The oil can be obtained from a variety of plant types, including those that produce oleaginous fruits like coconuts and olives as well as those that produce oleaginous seeds like sesame, soybean, rapeseed and flaxseeds. One of the most important phases in seed oil processing is oil extraction, which impacts the quality and quantity of oil extracted. This article focuses on the review and comparison of vegetable oil extraction methods using traditional, conventional (solvent and mechanical extraction) and unconventional and advanced (ultrasound and microwave extraction) methods.
